The dog is protected by the coat, from the cold, rain, and winds. Never should the dog hurt itself by the coat. Thats why the cut of my coat doesnt need any buttons or hard fasteners or clips which could cut the dogs skin when romping around. My coat does not only protect the dog from wind and weather, but also from cuts and bruises when playing.
The even safer alternative only being: dont go out at all....
